Semen sale
We have our own stallions and also supply semen to clients. All stallions are tested and free of sexually transmitted diseases (viral arteritis, contagious metritis, and equine infectious anemia) as required by current regulations.
Semen is sold chilled via urgent service to any part of Spain and via express service to any point in Europe where this service is offered.
It can also be sent frozen to locations where these services do not exist, or at the express request of the customer.
Artificial insemination
Insemination with fresh or chilled semen:
This process involves a thorough ultrasound examination of the mare, inseminating her within 24 hours of ovulation. The uterus and ovaries are monitored at all times, both before and after ovulation.
Insemination with frozen semen:
An even more precise ultrasound check is performed, as insemination must be performed within three hours before or after ovulation. The deep insemination technique is always performed to optimize semen, with one insemination per cycle.
Collection, evaluation, processing and shipping of refrigerated semen
– Therefore, our Center has a Semen collection room with a suitable dummy in its facilities to avoid any possible injury to the stallion.
Once the semen is collected, it is taken to the laboratory where it is processed, analyzed, and prepared for shipment. Each semen shipment includes an accompanying document, as required by current legislation. This document details the stallion's identification, health category, collection date, quality, number of motile sperm, and doses sent. The document is certified by the CASA analysis system.
semen freezing
It has been one of the greatest achievements in equine reproduction, as it allows us to use the stallion while he is in competition, in situations of possible sterility or illness, or even after he has died.
Our center is approved for semen collection and freezing (ES10004) and has an established protocol that includes:
– Quarantine and analysis of the stallion for sexually transmitted diseases.
– Analysis of freezing and determination of fertility of post-thawed semen, using the CASA system and flow cytometry.
– Automatic freezer with ultrasonic straw filling and sealing.
Semen storage and distribution
The CRE Pepe Antón is authorized by the EU as a storage and distribution center for equine semen with Registration No. ES10004.
We have a semen bank where all frozen semen is stored for later sale to any location in Spain, Europe, or the world, provided there is an agreement with the destination country. We always adhere to current legislation. We handle all the necessary paperwork for export or import.
Embryo transfer + vitrification
Why 1 Foal per mare per year?
Why 3 Recipient Mares per 1 Donor Mare?
The Embryo Transfer technique allows us to obtain more than one foal per year from already tested mares, or those with high genetic or economic value, avoiding any risks to the mare during pregnancy or birth.
By adding the Embryo Vitrification technique to Embryo Transfer, we achieve further benefits, as we eliminate the high number of recipient mares and their constant hormonal treatments for synchronization. Once the embryo is obtained, it is vitrified, keeping it cryopreserved indefinitely until the decision is made to transfer it to a recipient mare.
This technique allows us to choose the optimal time to implant the embryo, as well as to ship embryos to other countries (just as frozen semen is shipped). This reduces the costs and risks of shipping live foals.
We are an approved Equine Reproduction Center with registration number ES10004 for the handling, transfer, and sale of embryos. Our laboratory has the most modern equipment necessary for embryo micromanipulation.
Treatments for subfertile mares
In these cases, a thorough ultrasound check, sample collection, biopsies, laboratory tests, etc. are carried out to allow us to arrive at a diagnosis and subsequently apply appropriate treatment and achieve the final objective: PREGNANCY of the Mare.
Monitoring and control of delivery
We have a spacious foaling room that allows the mare to remain calm and relaxed for this crucial moment. It's equipped with video surveillance cameras that allow us to monitor the mare at all times.
We also have an innovative system placed directly on the mare days before birth, which alerts us of the exact moment the mare begins labor.
The birth is assisted by qualified personnel and is attended by the center's veterinarian, allowing for rapid and effective response to any complications or needs. The condition of both the newborn foal and the mother is monitored.
